TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium west grandstand to be imploded Sunday, Dec. 5th
TCU’s Amon G. Carter Stadium west grandstand will be imploded on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 around 8 a.m. On the day of the implosion, a restricted zone will be established surrounding the stadium along the streets of Cantey Drive, Stadium Drive, and Bellaire Drive North (see attached map). That morning, TCU will close the following streets beginning at approximately 5:00 a.m.:
- Bellaire Drive North from Bellaire Drive West to Stadium Drive
- Stadium Drive from Bellaire Drive North to West Cantey Street
- Cantey Street from Stadium Drive to the creek
This is done as an added precautionary measure and to control the flow of people and traffic. The Fort Worth Police Department and the TCU Campus Police will be assisting in the patrolling and clearing of streets.
VIEWING LOCATIONS:
Faculty and staff can watch the implosion anywhere outside the restricted zone. The Brown-Lupton University Union will be open at 7 a.m. to provide access to restrooms and coffee will be available for purchase in Union Grounds. Market Square will offer a special price for brunch immediately following the implosion. Residence Halls are not open to the public.
LOT CLOSURES:
To ensure the perimeter is secure, all vehicles must be removed from Lots 3, 4, 6 and Lot 7 by Saturday, Dec. 4 at noon. Any vehicle that is not moved, will be towed. Owners of towed vehicles may contact Campus Police at 817-257-7777 after the implosion to retrieve their vehicle.
Additionally, the lot near the soccer and baseball stadiums will be closed to the public. Parking on the west side of campus will be limited and spectators are encouraged to find parking on the east side of campus. The parking lot at the corner of Sandage Drive and McCart Avenue will not be available to the public.
DELAYS:
On the day of the event, the frog horn will be used to signal the implosion at five minutes til with four short blasts of the horn and again at one minute with one long blast. The frog horn will sound again when the implosion is complete with three short blasts.
If the implosion is delayed, TCU will post that information on www.stadium.tcu.edu and on the recorded information line (817-257-INFO) around 5 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 5.
